Art Deco lamps are fixtures created in the modern Art Deco style that was first made popular in Paris, France, in the 1920s. People with design knowledge can spot an Art Deco piece instantly, but many pieces of art, furniture and lighting in the style are a little more difficult to distinguish. Besides the clean lines and abundant use of metal and glass in the designs, there were also motifs like nudes, peacocks, flowers, woodland animals and geometrics.

These fit well into a modern or contemporary room and can add a classic touch. These lamps and objects can also look good in a room that uses similar colors and a fairly sleek style. The colors in this style are not rich, warm browns or deep reds. Rather than earth tones, the colors are cooler, pastel colors.
Combinations of pastel colors, especially unusual combinations like green and coral or mustard yellow and blue, fit in with the Art Deco style. Sleek lamps in these colors can add that touch to a room. Ranging from the very sleek and industrial-looking to the complicated with gears and symbols, Art Deco designs are meant to make the viewer think of technological advancement and human industrial achievement. This was the period of the first airplanes and the popularization of the automobile. Egyptian designs made their way into the movement because it was during this period that the tomb of King Tutankhamen was first opened and the excitement of that captured the modern world.
