Patio umbrellas are wonderful things to keep the sun off you during the daytime, but they can be inconvenient at night unless you invest in patio umbrella lights. During the day, you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather in the shade and have to worry less about sunburn, glare and heat thanks to your umbrella. It’s much more pleasant to have a light lunch at your patio table when the sun isn’t glaring down on you and blinding you by glinting off your plate.
But at night, the umbrella only serves to make an already dark place even darker by shading you from the moonlight. That can make sitting at a shaded patio table feel a bit claustrophobic after dark. Even if you have nearby lighting like overhead lights, the umbrella blocks a great deal of it. Many umbrellas can be cranked into a folded up position, which is handy. But then you have to worry about any dirt or moisture rolling right off the umbrella onto your table and onto you, if you’re not careful. Avoid all that with a lighted patio umbrella.
The Convenient Patio Umbrella Light
Instead of clearing any food and drinks off the table and having your guests all stand up while you crank the umbrella closed, just in case, you can simply flick a switch to turn on a patio umbrella light, or several, depending on the type you choose. Lights can be purchased that thread onto the umbrella pole and hang at the top, glowing down on the table. Some have a ring of light and others resemble mini chandeliers, with lights on arms extending around the pole. Some hang, and some follow the ribs of the umbrella. You can find a style that’s as sedate or as quirky as you prefer.
Solar Patio Umbrella Lights
You can purchase lights that are electric, rechargeable or battery-operated. But probably the most convenient choice, though the more expensive one, is solar patio umbrella lighting. You won’t have to worry about plugging the lights in, which is a bonus if your table isn’t sitting next to a power source or you don’t want to run an extension cord across your yard or patio. You only have to make sure that the solar cell gets plenty of sun during the day to have softly glowing illumination at night.
You could always put candles or a lamp on your table, but those take up space you might use for dishes of food or a board game, and the light will be right in front of your face, which can be glaring at night. Patio umbrella lights won’t take up table space, shine in your eyes or flicker in the breeze like candles will. And if you’re in the market for a new umbrella, you can even purchase models with lighting built-in for added convenience. Choose the one that appeals to you, and never have to worry about packing up and moving inside once the sun goes down.
